Dentistry is a branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity involving the dentition, oral mucosa, and adjacent related structures and tissues, particularly in the maxillofacial (jaw and facial) region. The Department of Dentistry at AIIMS Deoghar initiated OPD services on 25 th August 2021. Currently, the department is staffed by three faculty members, including the Professor and Head of Department (HOD), one Associate Professor, and one Assistant Professor, who provide OPD services on all six working days (Monday to Saturday) from the 3rd Floor of D Block. The faculty is supported by Senior Residents, Junior Residents, nursing staff, and other supporting staff. IPD services in the Department of Dentistry were initiated in January 2023, along with major operation theatre (OT) services conducted once a week. Emergency dental services were subsequently started on 21 st June 2025. Another feather in the cap of the Department was the initiation of the Postgraduate (MDS) Programme in Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry in January 2024.
