as a centre providing speciality services for the people of Jharkhand and nearby areas. It is purported to be
at the forefront of Ophthalmic clinical practice and eye health research, intending to make an enormous

standards of eye care.
We will strive incessantly to deliver highest achievable standards of eye care and our ardent endeavour
won’t stop till we have achieved Vision for All: “Tamsoma Jyotirgamaya”.
Future plans:
To help focus resources and make an impact in the most relevant spheres of influence, the department
hereby outlines the direction and scope of priority areas:
- To develop and deliver the core services of training, education and assessment so that
ophthalmologists are well equipped to meet the needs and demands of patients in a changing
world and to build capacity of ophthalmic and paramedical personnel.
- To project and place the Department on the academic map by active intra-mural, extra-mural and
multi-disciplinary research in collaboration with other departments. Research papers and
publications would be an area of special consideration.
- To commence postgraduate course at the earliest.
- The varied population diaspora in these lands, including the indigenous population, provide a rare
opportunity to study the genetic associations of Ophthalmic disorders. We intend to pursue the
genetic basis of these disorders and endeavour to establish our Department as the Centre for
Excellence in Ophthalmic Genetics.
- To raise awareness of ophthalmology as a speciality. Awareness camps, seminars and screening
camps for refractive disorders, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, corneal blindness on regular basis
would be planned and promoted with active participation of eye care workers at regular intervals.
- To encourage active engagement with ophthalmic institutions, organisations and agencies and
promote Department representation at regional/national and international level through active
participation in academic events, conferences and trainings.
- To create an ophthalmic database.
