BACKGROUND

College of Nursing, AIIMS, Deoghar started in academic session of 2021 with joining of founder Principal Prof. C. Vasantha Kalyani in August 2021. The first batch of 60 B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing students will be admitted in month of Oct. 2021 through All India entrance test, which will be conducted by AIIMS, New Delhi

21st Century nursing is the glue that holds a patient’s health care journey together. Beyond the time-honoured reputation for compassion and dedication lies a highly specialized profession, which is constantly evolving to address the needs of society. From ensuring the most accurate diagnoses to the ongoing education of the public about critical health issues; nurses are indispensable in safeguarding public health. Nursing can be described as both an art and a science; a heart and a mind. 

At its heart, lies a fundamental respect for human dignity and an intuition for a patient’s needs. This is supported by the mind, in the form of rigorous core learning. Due to the vast range of specializations and complex skills in the nursing profession, each nurse will have specific strengths, passions, and expertise.

AIM

By rendering quality Nursing Education, helps to prepare nurses who can make independent decisions in nursing care at various situations while managing patients.

OBJECTIVES  

  • To prepare professional nurses who will provide comprehensive health care to individual and community with commitment and compassion.
  • To enable students to get job opportunities for economically better position at national and international level.
  • To enable nurses to demonstrate leadership & managerial skill in clinical and community health setting.
  • To mould student as a member of profession enabling them to uphold the dignity of profession.
  • To prepare students on using information systems and other technology to improve the quality and safety of health care for people.
  • To enhance the professional growth of Nursing through continued research process.
  • To prepare students on effective communication and leadership skills to promote positive change in health care of community

SCOPE

The nursing students of all programmes will provide services to the indoor and outdoor patients in institute while learning. The nursing faculty and students will serve the patients during the scheduled times in all the areas of hospital and community health centre and thereby will contribute towards patient care services. 

  • The Medical and Surgical Nursing division The goal of the Medical-Surgical Nursing specialty is to promote, maintain, and restore the health of the client in accordance with the best evidence available. The primary focus of medical-surgical nursing care is to meet the biologic, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs of the adult patient in a mutually trusting, respectful, and caring relationship. Medicalsurgical nursing prepare nurses to work in specialized areas like neurology, neurosurgery, cardio-thoracic, critical care, nephrology, oncology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, urology, burns and plastic surgery, dermatology, ophthalmology, ENT, immunology and other medical-surgical super-specialties. 
  • The division of Obstetric Nursing (Midwifery) will train nurses to give the necessary supervision, care and advice to women during pregnancy, labour and postpartum period. They should be able to conduct normal deliveries and care of the newborn babies. Counselling and education not only to the women but also with in the family and community. 
  • The division of Paediatric Nursing will train nurses to develop skills of assessing children with acute and chronic illnesses by assessing the health history, physical and mental examinations, and health risk appraisals. Identifying and diagnosing actual and potential health problems as well as the family’s and child’s responses to these health problems. Evaluating the child’s and family’s progress in relation to health. In addition to this, they will be skilled in immunization, monitoring normal growth and development, handling paediatric emergencies and teaching the mothers about care and safety of infant, toddler and adolescents. 
  • The division of Psychiatric Nursing will ensure promotion of mental health, prevention of mental health problems, care and treatment of persons with psychiatric disorders and rehabilitation of mentally ill individuals. They will provide services to the indoor and outdoor patients in psychiatric wards and de-addiction centre
  • The division of Community Health Nursing will provide comprehensive services to the people under the Community Health Centre (s) of the institute, while doing homevisits. While learning, students will provide antenatal, natal and postnatal services, school health services, and family welfare services to the community people and provide health education on various topics. 
  • The division of Administration, Research and Education will aim at inculcating leadership qualities in nursing students. They will be taught about methods of teaching and various instructional aids, which they will use to further teach or train people. They will also be trained to conduct research in nursing.

Apart from degree programmes, the college will conduct short term refresher courses and will be committed to organize Conferences, Workshops, Seminars and updates from time to time on a local, regional or national level and will bring out useful and practical recommendations. Organising continuing nursing education and participation in the teaching learning processes of field workers in neighbouring agencies will be an integral part of the college activities

Simulation based skill Labs
Establishment of following Skill development labs with low/medium fidelity mannequins or simulators is in progress:-

  • Basic Nursing skill lab
  • Computer and Nursing informatics Lab
  • Obstetrics and Gynaecological including Midwifery skill lab with low/medium fidelity mannequins or simulators
  • Child Health Nursing Lab with low/medium fidelity mannequins or simulators.
  • Psychiatric (Mental Health) Nursing lab
  • Community Health Nursing Lab.
  • Nursing Research Lab.
  • Therapeutic Nutrition Lab

FUTURE PLANS

  • Starting M.Sc. Nursing and PhD Nursing and super-speciality nursing courses/ fellowships in Neurosciences Nursing, Critical Care Nursing, CardioThoracic Nursing, Emergency and Trauma Nursing, Nephrological Nursing, Oncological Nursing, Orthopedic Nursing, Gastroenterological Nursing, Forensic Nursing, Diabetic Nurse, Stoma nurse and Neonatal Nursing etc.
  • Starting the masters program in Family Health Nurse Practitioner to provide independent nurse practitioners for the country to augment healthcare in remote and rural areas. 
  • Having a state-of-art facility to promote nursing research in the institution on local, regional and national nursing issues and problems.
  • Starting publication of a scientific nursing research journal(s) for the dissemination of empirical evidences generated by the nurse researchers.
