Department of Psychiatry, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Deoghar has been started in January 2021. Apart from Outpatient Department (OPD) services, the department also provide community psychiatry services once a month at CHC Devipur. OPD services include management of major mental illness like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and common mental illness like anxiety disorders. Additionally, specialized services like substance use disorders, consultation liaison psychiatry are provided. We also provide counselling services for psychiatric illness. Training undergraduate students in psychiatry is the most important objective of the department. Further, we are interested in training health professionals across various disciples in psychiatry. The department has been active in research. Faculty from the department has published articles in various national and international journals after its establishment. The department also include nursing officers, Ms. Supraja, Ms. Shivangi and Ms. Doniya, with psychiatry experience and trained to provide brief interventions for different psychiatric illness.

Future plans

Inpatient services and specialised addiction treatment services in the OPD will be started very soon. Services like electroconvulsive therapy, transcranial magnetic stimulation, transcranial direct current stimulation. Psychological assessments and psychotherapy services will be started in the coming days. Department will be establishing digital academy to train health professionals in psychiatry.
